A short history up to December 2008
This Village Hall serves our 5 hamlets (East Grafton, West Grafton, Wilton, Marten and Wexcombe). The group of hamlets consititutes Grafton Parish and recently our Village Hall was taken under the wing of the Parish Council.
Our Village Hall was built in 1938 (yes, an earlier coronation than many assume) following donations from local farmers and land owners.
The Coronation Hall has always been a registered charity, passing through many loops to retain this status within changing legal structures and requirements over the years.
Since being built 70 years ago, the Hall has retained its original roof, original heaters and much more. Careful fund raising and significant local effort have ensured that the building has served the community for so many years. Unfortunately the fabric of the Hall has aged to the point where drastic action is required and residents of the Parish have been working tirelessly to raise funds so that the community can, once again, enjoy a warm, dry, safe and accessible Hall.
The Parish Council is extremely grateful to all the people who have contributed to this project so far.
As a result of all this hard work, in December 2008, we won our bid for funding from the Big Lottery Fund's Community Buildings programme and work is now underway to replace the existing building.
If you should find yourself in Grafton at any of our events then may we welcome you to our Parish and wish you a very enjoyable and memorable time!
